The Sun and Ecuador

The skin is the largest organ in your body and shielding your body’s largest organ, your skin, from the equatorial sun, is a high priority in more ways than one. Most of the year Ecuador and the Galapagos have a high UV (Ultra Violet radiation) index of between 10- 12. This means that light-skinned people will burn in about 15 minutes. The midday sun in Ecuador is no joke …Emi is fair .. Emi is really fair, while I have always been able to never wear sunscreen and be out in the sun all day and the next day be this awesome shade of coffee, well Emi is white on a different level she is always hosed down with SPF 100 and still looks like she has passed through a nuclear reactor. On this particular trip she was going to surf school I was armed with several bottles of SPF 100 and I thought I was prepared. I was not ... the weather was cloudy and every time she emerged from the water, I hosed her down again. My all-day efforts were still not enough she ended up with a horrific sunburn to the point where she could not even open her eyes. They completely swelled shut. If my grandma had been alive, she would have said she has sun poison, and I can't say that I disagree with this. How We Protect from Sun Damage in Ecuador

Well, we cover up when going out now we have ultraviolet protection sun shirts, and we use them every day we are outside. We have SPF 100 and I have makeup with a high level of sun protection. We protect our skin like we never have in our entire lives. We take supplements, we use skin care protects and we got really serious about our skin. Below I'm going to list some skin care products and tips that we do every day to keep our skin healthy and protect it.


How to get Healthier skin in one week

  1. Wash your face at least twice a day, remove all your makeup before going to bed.

  2. Exfoliate your skin at least once a week to remove all deep down below the surface dirt and oil.

  3. Use a good clay face mask at least once a week.
